Title: The Disney Marvel
Overview:
The acquiring of the Marvel Entertainment franchise by Disney will now compromise the creativity and control of how the Marvel universe will be depicted in the near future. Disney is known for having tight censorship and management over its content, therefore by having Marvel under the Disney name, it will change the culture in its very core.
Goals and Objectives:
We want the viewers to realize how the strong impact of such an acquisition by Disney can affect a beloved franchise that many fans have grown up with. This can possible be a major shift in the direction that Marvel has managed to set forth in the past decade. This is relevant because the current culture of film and media is engulfed by superheroes and many science fiction stories that have gathered a large influence from the Marvel universe.
Audience:
The intended audience are generations X and Y. A strong focus will be on students to young adults, as they are typically more exposed to the current trend and culture of superheroes and science fiction. This will be considered in the project by us showcasing visual outputs of what will possibly happen now that Disney have acquired Marvel.
Key Message:
We want the audience to learn that the issue at hand is that by Disney buying Marvel Entertainment, it holds a great chance of influencing the Disney culture onto Marvel, which is not exactly ideal, since the demographics between the two are generally different. Disney is more of a family-oriented company that holds strict rules and policies that cater to a more conservative market. We are worried that this may spill over to other parts of the company, including Marvel Entertainment. There is also the potential of Disney trying to restrict the contents of Marvel. Disney is solely responsible for the decisions that are made within Marvel Entertainment since Disney is now the parent company.
Content Planning:
We will research the history, reputation, and conflicts associated with Disney to get a higher understanding of the identity and culture of the company. We will also look at Marvel Entertainment and the potential ways that it can be affected by this shift in ownership, whether it be the amount of content that Disney is able to influence, to whether or not Disney plans to rebrand Marvel Entertainment as a whole.
Medium of Expression:
Posters- Being able to visually present our ideas and concerns in a physical medium that is simple and widespread, without the need to technologically advertise this campaign.
Internet- Through social media websites such as Wikispaces and FaceBook, we are tapping into a popular culture of web 2.0 where people are constantly able to provide their public opinions towards certain subjects with the ability to strengthen the topics they support through user networking and word-of-mouth.
Film- Visually presenting our ideas and concerns in a technological medium will convey the message in a fluid manner that will essentially spoon-feed our campaign into their minds.
Schedule:
Week 1:- gather information, research the history and culture of both Disney and Marvel Entertainment- create the blueprint of how we will convey our message through the medium
Week 2:- implementing the plans into action- pages should be created on Wikispaces and FaceBook regarding our topic- videos and posters should be nearing completion- turning the research into a presentable format
Week 3:- putting the pieces together- videos and posters are completed and showcased to the public, and feedback is collected- applying the research data and everything we have created into a presentation board, as well as having a powerpoint presentation to showcase to the class
